Average Joe and Old People

I do not like reality television, I think it is garbage, and cheap "entertainment" feeding on many people's desire for a quick romp in the spotlight.. not to mention a cheap substitute for sitcoms, which I won't go into. Having said that, I will admit that I sat through Average Joe 2: Hawaii, no I did not watch any episode of the original. It was out of morbid curiosity, and I kind of wanted to see what was being thrown at this girl; whom we had seen previously (Wow is she perdy). I both felt bad for her, and laughed at her.. because, the show's producers totally screwed her and she didn't see it coming... But the "hunks" will be brought in later, as advertised, and none of the people on the show know it. As stated, I am morbidly curious to see how it goes down. There are glimpses to the future as the "hunks" pretty much belittle and simply hurt the "average joes" which I don't find entertaining at all. I don't know that I will continue to watch the show to it's conclusion, I may find myself watching the last episode, or finding out who she picked; I'm sure I will find out one way or another, because the reality dating shows are such a big deal.. Ryan and Trista?'s Wedding is still being talked about (I didn't see it, nor do I honestly care) - I don't know if I'll watch or not, it will probably be left up to my roommate, and my social life; we shall see.

Now for old people. Yesterday, I went and saw "Something's Gotta Give" with my parents. It starred Jack Nicholson, Diane Keaton, Keanu Reeves and Amanda Peet. First and foremost, if you're thinking about seeing this movie, I warn you; Jack Nicholson's ass makes an appearance, and Ms. Keaton has a brief scene in her birthday suit - If you can stomach those two things, it is a cute and funny movie that I wouldn't mind seeing again. Where are the old people (because I'm not talking about Jack or Ms. Keaton - No.)? I am talking about the audience with which I saw this movie. Going to this movie, I figured there wouldn't be too many people in the audience.. honestly, I figured there were decent odds of us being the only ones in the whole theater. Boy was I wrong. We showed up a few minutes into the previews... something I absolutely despise, mind you; turned the corner to survey our seating options and it was a very crowded house. My dad asked if I was going to be sitting with him and my mother, and I opted not to. Because I'm embarassed to be seen in public with them? No. In fact, it was because the average age of this audience was 65+, and one of my big pet peeves is something that old people do. Old people tend to eat.. like everyone else; but the thing is, when they get stuff stuck in their teeth, they don't use normal means to get it out (by which I mean a toothpick, or a finger). No! Everyone who is able to get a senior discount... uses the AARP Method to getting stuff out of their teeth. I call it the AARP Method, because it seems as though, along with their membership, someone took them aside and told them how to do it, and that if they used any other method to get something out of their teeth, they would be banned from any and all things AARP. They try to suck the food out of their teeth from the inside; I don't know how they do it. I don't know why they do it. I do know it rarely ever works, and it pisses me off to no end. Simply, I don't like it. And there I was, presented with a situation out of my own personal hell - An audience full of old people, with popcorn just waiting to get stuck in their teeth. I should've stayed home. - I opted to sit in the front couple of rows - no old people would crane their neck to watch the movie, and I would be far enough away not to be annoyed. I was wrong; I suffered through it, but it was a good movie, and I liked it. I hated the audience though. I'm so irritable.

And in other news, out of Las Vegas (Hey, that's where I am! .. *mutters*): Britney Spears got married, and had it annulled over the weekend. Poor Britney, the spotlight has burned out, and she's resorting to desperate measures to keep everyone's eyes on her. I would say something about having no respect for her, but that ship sailed long ago.. so.. whatever. Publicity stunts can be fun though!! (Har.)

2004 New Year's Resolution: Let's move on, as a culture, and a society, without Britney Spears. The year is 5 days old and I've had my fill of her already.

C'est la vie. That's all I've got for now.
