For how tired I am, I should totally be in bed. I've average under 6 hours sleep for the week.
I should be in bed, crashing, so I don't sleep until 4 tomorrow, but alas, I'm not quite ready.
This afternoon, something that has not happened before in the history of my stead at this university. I lost and could not find my BuffOneCard, for those of you who don't know, and I'm pretty sure it's close to all of you. This card is of vital importance to all students, especially those who live on campus and want to eat in the dining halls. Wait, let me rephrase, because honestly, who wants to eat in the dining halls. Those who seek sustenance, no... Those who don't want to die of hunger, there we go! It allows you to ride the bus, and Boulder has one of the best mass transit systems in the country. It grants you access to the rec center, and is useful in a variety of other ways. The few times I have misplaced it, I knew exactly where it was placed, and located it literally within a span of thirty seconds.
Today, I had managed to get all the way into the dining hall, collected the portions I was going to consume, and prepared to walk to the check out line. I reached into my pocket, the pocket where it always is, and felt around. It was not there. I had misplaced it. Oh no. I think for a moment, where could it be? I am dumbfounded. The last time I had it was when I got dinner the same way last night. When I got back, I promptly swapped pants, leaving the contents in their respective places and moved them but once prior to putting them back on in the morning. I had been three places the whole day, and I couldn't figure out where I lost it. I retraced my steps, visiting two of them and turning up nothing. I checked back in with the lunch lady, and said I still couldn't find it, but I was going to check one more place before giving up hope. So I stormed across campus to the only class of the day, waited for them to let out (it was about 4 minutes) and walked in, looked at the desk where I sat, and what should I find but... oh, nothing! Shit!
I tell you, when I lose something, I really lose it. So, I hastily walked back across campus to inform the woman I could not locate it. After my food had been sitting for thirty minutes, nobody was going to eat it anyway, and she gave it to me. Walking back to my dorm, I was still contemplating its whereabouts, as I had plans for the evening that required the Card, namely Bussing and Rec Centering. As I walked into my dorm, I was hit with its location like a ton of bricks. It was in my wallet. Now, you think to yourself, dude, where else would it be? No, you see, the only time my wallet is on me is when I am going to spend money. And as it was Friday, I hadn't been anywhere to spend money since I used the card last.
However, Thursday night, I went with Mari to a guest speaker, and we were contemplating doing something that might require money, so I brought my wallet. Incidentally, I keep my wallet in the same pocket as my BuffOneCard, and every now and then, the Card has a nasty habit of getting stuck inside the wallet when I remove it from my pocket. Which is what happened. But I didn't think to look in the wallet because, well, why would I? I hadn't spent any money, and put it away when I got back into the room (with my food). So, I spent 40 minutes running back and forth across campus when it was literally within arms reach. And, I'll give you the College Count.
The College Count-Events that have taken place since my college career began on August 26th, 2002 (when we departed from Las Vegas on a trek to Boulder) to Present Day.
Times I have dropped my keys unintentionally (ie. they slipped from my grasp while I was handling them): 10.
Times I have been locked out: 0
Times I have forgotten my BuffOneCard: 1 (March 5th, 2004)
Times I have dropped a tray in a Dining Hall: 0
Times I have been to McDonalds: 4
Last time I was at McDonalds: The First Saturday of Spring Break, 2003
First College McDonalds Eating: August 26th, 2002 - St. George, Utah - The Dr Pepper dispenser was actually filled with Mr Pibb
I don't know why I remember it, but I do. Deal with it.
What a rant. I had other stuff to say, but now I am ready to sleep, so it will wait until tomorrow.
At 2:31am MTN Time: I hope you're all either sleeping soundly, or doing something you'd prefer over sleep. ;)
