So, being your stereotypical college student, I put off a reading assignment handed out at the beginning of the semester to a class of 200. Five books, you need to read one by the final. Documented, and filed in the back of everyone's mind.
Fast forward four months. Six days to the final, the last day of class. I don't even know where my list of the books is, so I ask the girls on either side of me if they have the syllabus, and luckily one of them did. Copied down the titles, and went straight to the library after class let out. Got to a terminal, searched for the five titles. Three were found, and all were checked out with holds on them (as in, people had dibs on them). I went up to the desk and asked what all that meant, and got answers that provided a dreary outlook. I went back to my room, and explored other options, such as purchasing the book online, and getting it delivered. But it was too expensive, and wouldn't necessarily get here in time for the final (Wednesday), not to mention the time it would take to read. Scrap that. I did another search on the books the following day, and it seemed as though one had been returned, and was waiting on hold at the library. I called up, got transferred, got transferred, and asked what the odds were of being able to read it on site, without checking it out, and relinquishing it should the person with the primary hold on it show up. I was told it was possible.
Woot! I was at the library five minutes later to take advantage. Of course, it was 4:59pm, and they close at 5pm, so no dice. They were open today Noon-5pm. I spent 5 straight hours, nose buried in the book, and managed to read 202 of the 214 pages before I was kicked out. And the guy with the primary hold did show up, but we were familiar with one another from a club we're in, and he saw I was halfway through the book, so he just left me be to get it tomorrow it seems. I'm gonna send him an email later tonight thanking him. Freakin' awesome.
Why was it so important to read? Well, it's 10 questions out of an ~80 question final. That's 12.5% of the exam grade, but what's worse is that the final is worth 40% of the course grade. And I need every point I can get for this class, because I've got a shot at one of those things that really help your gpa, called an "A," which aren't always possible when this point in the semester comes around. Huzzah.
My eyes hurt, I'm going to the gym (to run my thoughts away), and fuck studying the rest of the night. (I'll think about it come midnight)
Have a nice evening folks.
