So, yesterday (Saturday) it snowed a better part of the day, and into the evening, a good dusting covering the city in almost 2 inches of the white stuff. My friend Mari and I had planned to hang out, have dinner and watch the movie "Chocolat." She came by to pick me up a little after 6pm, but upon attempting to leave the parking lot it was very clear we were not going to have a safe trip to her place. She didn't have snow, nor all-weather tires, and absolutely no experience driving in snow. We pull back into the parking lot, and park to feel out our options. We opted to confer with my roommate, a native Coloradan, Matt. We slowly came to the conclusion that Mari would have to leave her car on campus overnight, but the question was where. The lot that currently had Welch's (Mari's car, it's a purple color) was metered parking, seven days a week from 7:30am-5:30pm (10 hours a day) at $1.25 an hour. We explored other options.
Across the street from the parking lot holding Welch's was Visitor Parking, but it was the same type of metered parking. Just beyond that was another parking lot, which we discovered was a permit parking, Monday-Friday. Bingo! Now, the issue was getting Welch's from parking lot A, through parking lot B, into parking lot C, without hitting anything. My roommate, Matt, was given the job of navigator and driving coach, Mari took the job of driving, since Welch's is a stick shift, and neither Matt nor I knew how to operate one... it's on the list of things to do though. And I, weighing in nearly 40 pounds more than either of them, was tasked as anchor. Yes, that's right, I got to hang out at the tailgate of Welch's hold on, and drag my feet to try and slow us. So, if you would please imagine, a pickup truck driving through snow with a six foot guy hanging on the back, basically dragging his feet along the ground, skiing behind the car. We safely managed to get into lot C, and come to a stop relatively straight in a parking spot. Quite an ordeal, but a successful execution of a plan. It's always good to have success.
Mari and I grabbed our stuff, and went off to catch the bus. Matt went back to chillin' out, playing his guitar and watching the History Channel. We watched Chocolat (starring Juliette Binoche, Judi Dench, Lena Olen and Johnny Depp) and Mari has added Johnny Depp to her five sexiest men in the world list. In case you were wondering, they are, in no particular order, David Beckham, Matthew McConaughey, Johnny Depp, Hugh Grant, and the last spot has yet to be filled. I slept on the couch, because I didn't particularly want to ride the bus at One am, and had no other means to get back to my dorm with, seeing as Mari lives far off campus.
Mari and I went to the rec center today, and I somehow managed to convince her to shoot around with me (basketball)- I feel the need to mention she is approximately five feet, two inches tall. We played two games of P-I-G which I won handily, but when we started shooting around we really started having fun. I managed to nail three in a row from beyond the arc, two from each corner, and one from the top of the key. And I had a string of four in a row from the top of the key that were absolutely beautiful. Before the fifth shot that broke the streak, Mari passed the ball to me quite speedily on my left side, and I stopped it with my left arm. In the course of my stopping it, I managed to do something quite painful to my elbow, something that I'd not had to deal with in six months or so. We went and lifted some weights a bit later, and I managed to re-aggrevate my elbow, again, and decided I was done with physical activity for the day.
I may have hyperextended something. It was absolutely on fire when I caught the basketball and again the second time when I was attempting to lift and inched in the wrong way. Salsa Dancing Tuesday. And I have to make a proposal for a semester-long paper tomorrow, but I haven't decided on my topic. I can't decide between an issue regarding Stem Cell Research or Genetic Engineering, one or the other... argh!
