Just got back from seeing the movie, Timeline. And having read the book, I was obviously disappointed. The book was perfectly suited to be made into a movie. In reading the book, I kept thinking how easy it was to picture everything and how it would be a totally schweet(tm) movie if they stuck to the book.
Of course, they didn't, and the book was rewritten into screenplay form, but some of the cool stuff was left out. Meanwhile, I didn't like Paul Walker... he just didn't act how I pictured his character, I would almost liken his acting to that of Keanu Reeves for the first few scenes of Revolutions, but that's too harsh... he was still bad though.
It had some cool points, but the book was far superior in every aspect.
During the course of the movie I saw some faces that looked familiar, the chick from Bedazzled (not Liz Hurley, but Frances O'Connor- the one Brendan Fraser liked), Neal McDonough who is just totally fucking awesome - you know him from Minority Report, and as Buck from Band of Brothers. Not to mention the one I totally knew, but couldn't place, Lambert Wilson, better known to everyone (including me) as the Merovingian from Reloaded/Revolutions, of course, that's what a lot of make-up, armor and a wig will do for you... A face I didn't recognize, but wouldn't mind seeing more of was Anna Friel.. simply a pretty face (and I mean that literally, I liked her face, you didn't see much else, and that's fine.. her face is still pretty).
Anyway, the movie would've been far better had I not read the book. Kind of like The Sum of All Fears, except that was a freakin' awesome book, and a horrible, god-awful movie (I blame Affleck) -- Paul Walker suxxored, the supporting cast was pretty good despite him; for a book-turned-movie, it was run-of-the-mill. And there were a few problems as with any movie where time travel is involved (continuity issues, if you will).
I'm glad it only cost me three bucks, and if it's on cable, I might sit through it again.
