I informed Erin about this site tonight, as well as an old blog (on blogger no less) that I had kept prior to my arrival here. Currently she is scouring them, laughing.
I asked her if she could see me as a Film major, something I've been contemplating for the last ~11 hours. And her response, and I'm copying and pasting it here folks was:
Scully: "Can you see me as a Film major?"
Erin: "Yep...big fat hell yeah."
Scully: "Why?"
Erin: "You know a lot about it...it offers freedom, wit, and clear thinking..not to mention people skills and the ability to work under pressure...all things you need and have."
I feel the need to point that as I write this the Stones' "What I like about you" is playing.
Coming from one of the people who know the part of me that few people in this world have had the... experience of experiencing (what else can you call it, sometimes it is a pleasure, other times its a pain). Her opinion carries a massive amount of weight with me, and upon a little more reflection, I may be taking strides toward the end of becoming a Film major - something I have been encouraged to look at by a number of people, including two today - and something that in one form or another has been on the back of my mind for a number of months.
I spent over an hour looking at how long it would take me to graduate, what classes I would be taking, and what the load would look like - something I haven't seriously done for any other major. It will take me four semesters, and the question is economics, if I can afford to be in school for that long. I haven't said a word to my family just yet, and I look forward to telling my sister (oy). Not only did I steal her second choice for college, now I'm stealing her major. She was Theater Arts/Film - or some such combination. Oh well, given my sister's success in the film industry, I couldn't possibly do worse and besides I'm not looking to direct, at least that's not my future focus. And as a selling point, with all the jews in show-biz, I'm bound to find a jewish wife.. wouldn't that thrill my parents.
Needless to say, after talking with Erin, my evening has perked up, and while the day and evening were bad, the night was pretty good.
As usual, she had the right thing to say, at the right time.
